“Meeting Nature for the first time”
While growing up as a kid nature was a most for me. To me nature meant outside, fresh-air, and most of all fun! I remember coming home from school each day just to go back outside. However, out of all my encounters outside nothing puts a price on when I first met nature. Becoming a boy scout was my first time meeting nature. I say this because I got that full nature experience when I became a boy scout. My best experiences with boy scouting was campfire stories, hiking, and sleeping outside.
When I first got the chance to go on my Boy Scout trip in the woods I was thrilled. I couldn’t wait to go out with my fellow boy scouts and have fun. Of course, I was too young to go alone so my dad came with me. Along with my dad coming he also brought his sarcasm with him. He tried his absolute best to scare me with his so-called spooky campfire stories. I knew what he was trying to do so his attempt was a fail. Afterwards, when it came time for these stories my dad turned out to be right. I was so terrified after stories they told. However, I did enjoy every second of it.
Next, while with the boy scouts I got my first chance to go hiking. This was arguably the best experience out of all being a boy scout. Oddly, before ever hiking, I at first wasn’t looking forward to this. I knew how much I would have to walk around in the woods. So I dreaded going hiking. Shockingly when we started to hike it just got better and better. I even got a chance to see a deer for the first time in person. It was a beautiful experience for me.
Lastly, when you think about sleeping outside your initial reaction is to dislike it. Me as a child I enjoyed outside so much that sleeping outside wasn’t a problem. I remember the tent and sleeping bags me and my dad had. His was blue and mine was red those both were our favorite colors. We had the tent packed with snacks and juice. Now that I think back on this, that probably was a horrible idea. That campsite was full of raccoons and possums.
In conclusion, my experience with nature is always great. However, my first time meeting it with boy scouting cannot be matched. I saw things that I may not ever see again. I got to do things that I never knew I would. I enjoyed every bit of it.
